Caro Enrico,

John F. McGuigan Jr.
Mary K. McGuigan

Additionally, we are sending you some catalogues to distribute to people who do museum exhibitions in Rome, on advice of our mutual friend, Paolo Pochettino.

We have found memories of the tour of the Janiculum and the Roman Republic of 1849 that you conducted in November 2007, and we hope that you like our catalogues.

Dear Mary and John,
I have well received the two catalogues, related to the exhibitions on James Freeman and on the American artists in the XIX century Rome, of which you were curators, and which you have kindly sent to me.

I have found these catalogues extremely interesting, especially as they give a very realistic, and at the same time a sort of gentle reproduction, of the population and landscapes of Latium of XIX century, and as they are really quite informative on a not well known page of the history of the relations between America and Rome. Also, I read with great interest the pages devoted to the description of the life of James Freeman, and certainly I was quite impressed in learning the role he played at the time and after the fall of the Roman Republic, at the benefit of the exiles.

It would be really a pleasure and an honour for us to contribute in any possible manner (although we do not know yet what exactly we would be able to do) to ensure that such interesting exhibitions, related to artists, and including documents, so connected with our culture and history, could also be organised in Rome.

I wish to thank you very much also on behalf of the other members of the “Associazione Cipriani/Comitato Gianicolo”, not only for having sent the catalogues, but also for the kind and generous attention you demonstrated to the association and to me personally, by including our names in the list of the persons or entities –listed in the Freeman’s catalogue- being thanked for having provided a contribution. We shall be very pleased to include the two catalogues in the library of our association, and, if you do not mind, we intend also to create a weblink leading from the website of our association to those of the two exhibitions. We shall also try to disseminate the information on the exhibitions and of the catalogues as much as we can.

Our mutual friend Paolo Pochettino informed us of your possible visit to Rome in November. On that occasion we could meet and discuss, if you agree, in order to identify more exactly the objectives you may be interested to reach as regard the exhibitions.

I too keep a very pleasant memory of the visit we jointly carried out on the Janiculum hill, on the places of the 1849 battles, and I took the liberty of even mentioning your visit on the website of the association.

We look forward to seeing you again in Rome !

With kind regards,

Enrico Luciani

Cara Mary, caro John,

Ho trovato questi cataloghi estremamente interessanti.
